Spot of the day: Ferrari 288 GTO

Today the choice for spot of the day was easy! Of course the BMW M3 tuned by Brabham was already mentioned on the frontpage, but this spot is something else. In Barcelona the legendary Ferrari 288 GTO was spotted, a true masterpiece by Ferrari. It is an extremely rare car, before today you could only find three spots of this car on Autogespot, right now four times!

This wonderful Ferrari was spotted in Barcelona. This model was build by Ferrari to enter rally’s, in the end the car dind’t enter a single rally. They had to build at least 200 cars to enter, they did, eventually Ferrari built 272 288 GTO’s. The Ferrari 288 GTO has a 400 bhp strong V8 under the bonnet, quite a lot for those days. In just 4.9 seconds the car reaches 100 km/h, with a topspeed of 305 km/h you must have some balls to drive this car to its limits. In those days cars didn’t have side inpact protection and airbags, so almost nothing to protect you if you would, for example hit a tree or an other car.

This 288 GTO has a remarkable exhaust system, this one hasn’t got two exhausts on both sides of the car but here you find three exhaust pipes in the middle. The rims are also different than the original rims. We don’t realy like the changes made to this car, but unfortunately it isn’t our car so nothing we can do about it. The combo with a Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta is pretty nice. You get to wonder, how many of these cars can be found in the Netherlands? It is known that Dutch Ferrari dealers sold two, the question that remains is are these cars still in the Netherlands? We can only be sure if a 288 GTO is spotted on Dutch licence plates.
