The Porsche 911 Turbo 50 Years anniversary model

The 911 Turbo has always carried an aura of exclusivity, and that’s certainly true for the new 911 Turbo 50 Years Anniversary model - a special edition built to celebrate five decades of pushing the boundaries of performance and design. Here’s what makes it a true tribute to the legendary Turbo name.

First introduced in 1974, the 911 Turbo has become synonymous with the Porsche legacy. To mark its 50th anniversary, Porsche is celebrating with a special edition that pays tribute to its storied history.

Porsche has experienced many defining moments over the decades. In 1931, Ferdinand Porsche founded the engineering firm Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche GmbH with partners Adolf Rosenberger and Anton Piëch. Then in 1948, his son Ferry Porsche established the sports car brand with the launch of the revolutionary 356 ‘No. 1’ Roadster. Another milestone came in 1963, with the debut of the iconic 911, originally known as the 901. As a brand steeped in motorsport, Porsche’s triumph at the 1970 24 Hours of Le Mans with the 917 KH race car also holds special significance.

The year 1974 stands out as a pivotal moment for Porsche as well. It was at the Paris Motor Show on October 3rd that the world first saw the 911 Turbo, a car that brought Porsche's turbocharging expertise-developed through motorsport since 1971 in the legendary 917 - into a road-going model. Over the past 50 years, the Turbo name has become emblematic of Porsche’s commitment to breathtaking performance and distinctive design.

Every 911 Turbo model exudes a sense of exclusivity, and the new 911 Turbo 50 Years anniversary edition is no exception. This limited-edition model, crafted to celebrate five decades of breaking boundaries, is a perfect homage to the legendary Turbo lineage. Here's what makes it truly special.

Exterior design of the 911 Turbo 50 Years

The 911 Turbo has always been a benchmark of performance, but its distinctive design has also made it a visual icon since day one. Marrying power with elegance and emotion, the original Turbo set a design standard that continues with the 911 Turbo 50 Years edition. Drawing inspiration from the first Turbo’s standout rear wing, the new model’s rear wing blade-finished in Anthracite Grey - echoes this legacy in a modern interpretation.

This sophisticated Anthracite Grey tone extends to various exterior elements, including the lower rear section, side skirts, mirror bases, and rear side air intakes. The anniversary model is introduced in GT Silver Metallic, with the optional Heritage Design package featuring the elegant Aventurine Green Metallic. These choices, along with a palette of 10 additional exterior colors and the option for custom Paint to Sample colors, ensure a refined aesthetic that has defined every 911 Turbo since 1974. A unique touch is the exclusive 911 Turbo 50 Years badge on the rear engine cover grille, which incorporates a graphic of the Porsche turbocharger along with the years 1974-2024. The rear nameplate also showcases a special ‘turbo 50’ insignia.

The anniversary model is further distinguished by the use of Turbonite - a unique metallic grey accent shade created by Porsche’s Color and Trim experts - on both the exterior and interior. This exclusive color is now a signature feature for all new Turbo models.

Adding to its distinctive look, the 911 Turbo 50 Years also includes striking side graphics, reminiscent of those found on the 911 Turbo 3.0 (930), now presented as standard and finished in the same sophisticated Turbonite tone.

Interior styling of the 911 Turbo 50 Years

The 911 Turbo 50 Years edition features several interior accents in Turbonite, the signature color for all Porsche Turbo models. This unique shade is highlighted in the decorative stitching on the dashboard, floor mats, and door sills, and is also present on trim strips with black leather inlays, the PDK gear selector, and seat belts.

The interior design also draws inspiration from the classic Dress Mackenzie tartan cloth. In 1974, the debut model year of the 911 Turbo featured three different tartan patterns, which later became available across all 911 models. This historical connection is reflected in the new 911 Turbo 50 Years, where the Dress Mackenzie tartan is reimagined in a fresh color scheme for the 18-way Adaptive Sports Seats Plus and the interior door panels. Originally used in a sports car created for Ferry Porsche’s 67th birthday, the tartan pattern adds a timeless touch that seamlessly blends heritage with modernity.

Exclusive interior features of the 911 Turbo 50 Years

The 911 Turbo 50 Years proudly showcases its exclusivity with a limited-edition plaque that highlights the individual number of each of the 1,974 units being produced. This nod to its heritage recalls a unique option from the early 911 Turbo models, where a ‘turbo’ badge could be added to the glove box, personalized with the owner’s name.

Inside, the anniversary model combines modern design elements with subtle historic references. The GT sports steering wheel is wrapped in leather and features the Porsche crest, black ring, decorative stitching, and drive mode switch - all accented in the exclusive Turbo color, Turbonite. Further evoking the past, the foldable rear seatbacks include a luggage brake - a feature from earlier Turbo models designed to secure baggage. The rear left seat is embroidered with ‘turbo 50’ lettering, reminiscent of the original design from the 911 Turbo (930).

True to the Turbo's legacy of performance and precision, the 911 Turbo 50 Years comes equipped with the Porsche Design Subsecond clock, integrated into the dashboard. This analog timepiece features white indices and lettering that contrast against a black dial with a sunburst finish and Turbonite rings, mirroring the design of the limited-edition 911 Turbo 50 Years Chronograph by Porsche Design. This commemorative watch, released alongside the anniversary model, is also limited to 1,974 units - symbolizing the year the 911 Turbo first made its debut.

It also includes Sport Classic wheels, painted in brilliant silver and white, complete with central locking and wheel covers that showcase the historic Porsche crest.

Heritage Design models across the Porsche lineup are celebrated for their unique character, and the 911 Turbo 50 Years exemplifies this with gold lettering at the rear and striking white decorative graphics on the sides. These graphics feature ‘turbo 50’ and ‘Porsche’ lettering, as well as a customizable ‘lollipop’ graphic that allows customers to select their preferred start number.

Inside, the lid of the storage compartment and the on-board folder are embossed with the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur insignia, reflecting the exceptional craftsmanship that elevates the exclusivity of the 911 Turbo 50 Years. High-quality tartan details are thoughtfully integrated throughout the interior, appearing in the dashboard trim, glove compartment, on-board folder, trunk mat, and as decorative elements on the seat backs, further enhancing the car's luxurious feel.
