UFO alert: Disco Volante Spyder spotted in Belgium

A remarkable discovery has been made in Knokke-Heist, Belgium: the Alfa Romeo Disco Volante Spyder, a breathtaking two-seater convertible, meticulously coach-built to order in an extremely limited run of just seven units. This masterpiece draws its lineage from the dawn of the space race in 1952, when Touring astonished the world with the Alfa Romeo C52. Its groundbreaking aerodynamic design earned it the nickname "Disco Volante" (Italian for "flying saucer"), a moniker inspired by the era's fascination with UFO sightings. The C52's revolutionary design influenced many iconic sports and racing cars for decades, making it the direct ancestor and clear inspiration for today’s Disco Volante Spyder.

Endorsed by Alfa Romeo, whose badge it proudly displays, the Disco Volante Spyder is built on the rolling chassis and drivetrain of the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione Spyder. True to its name, "Superleggera" (Italian for "super lightweight"), the car’s design focuses on minimizing weight, particularly in its innovative roof. The car features a twin-panel carbon fiber roof that, when fitted, transforms the Disco Volante Spyder into a fully insulated coupé, combining the thrill of open-top motoring with the comfort and protection of a fixed-head sports car.

The Disco Volante Spyder is as striking in design as its predecessor, pushing the boundaries of open-top driving while delivering an unexpectedly high level of comfort and ride quality. It’s a bold reinterpretation of the convertible, entirely devoted to the joy of wind-in-your-hair driving.

Under the hood, it’s powered by a 4.7-liter V8 engine, producing 450 hp at 7,000 rpm and 480 Nm of torque at 4,750 rpm. The car features rear-wheel drive, a 6-speed electroactuated sequential gearbox with paddle-shift control, and an automatic mode. With a limited-slip differential, the Disco Volante Spyder accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds, reaching a top speed of 292 km/h.

As rare as the Disco Volante Spyder is, this is only the second one ever documented on our site. The first, a blue Spyder, was spotted in 2016 in Como, Italy, and later that year in London, where it was seen again in 2017.

The Coupé version has been spotted as well, but only once in 2018 on an Italian highway. That particular Coupé, with its stunning dark green paint, orange accents, and gold wheels, remains one of the most beautiful Disco Volantes we've ever seen.
